I'd like to introduce Valley's new starting outfield. Barry Ponds, Duckey Henderson, and Quack Robinson. I've heard they're great at fielding fly balls, especially with all the fowl territory.
-----
We've managed to make it past several episodes of rain and now (based on the seven day forecast, anyway) we should be getting some warmer temps, drier air and breezes to pull the water out of the grass, where it is still mushy, slushy, and swampy. Balls aren't bouncing; they're thudding. Cleats aren't going "crunch-crunch" on the grass; they're going "splonch-tcuch-splonch." (It's more fun to say it out loud.)
* Murphy Field will need more than three days to get into playable shape, so it will remain closed. This means the two Majors games are postponed.
* The Minor Field still has a chance to recover before the end of the week. We will postpone through Wednesday, and monitor to see if it will be playable for the Thursday (La Azteca at Brayton Art) and Friday (Kiwanis at Shotwell's) games.
* Coaches may make alternative plans for practices, so check in with them.
* Next Week (Saturday 3/16 thru Friday 3/22) is the Valley Spring Break week. Have fun, be safe, and we'll see you on Saturday the 23rd!
